Diving Section

BSAC_logo_400pix_rgbThe Diving Section of Sussex Yacht Club has a long and distinguished history. It was formed in 1954 at the Brighton and Worthing Branch (branch number 007) of the British Sub-Aqua Club and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2004.

Since joining forces with SYC in 1999, much integration has taken place, with many divers now enjoying sailing and many sailors having taken the plunge to investigate the world beneath their boats.

The Club has its own dive boats (8m & 6m RIBs) moored at SYC. Diving takes place throughout the year, weather permitting. A lot of diving takes place locally between Beachy Head and Selsey Bill, with around 200 sites plotted within a 25 mile radius of the clubhouse. Many locations around the British coast have been dived, from Cornwall to the Orkney Islands. Expeditions to coral reefs in the Red Sea, Kenya, the Caribbean, and Papua New Guinea are also made throughout the year.

The Club has its own compressor on site and provides free fills to members. We also offer Nitrox fills to Divers in the Club at a small charge.

Brighton_BSACAs a BS-AC branch, "007" can train Members from an "Introduction to Diving" up to BS-AC Advanced Diver level. BS-AC recognises the diving qualifications awarded by other diving organisation and Members can choose to maintain their existing qualifications or transfer to the equivalent BS-AC grade. In other words PADI and divers with qualifications are more than welcome.

If you are interested in training as a diver, or you already dive, the Diving Section would be happy to talk to you. They hold a very informal evening, each Wednesday evening (from 20.30) in the bar, where you would be able to meet the Members and ask any questions.
