A New Era for the Boatyard: Sussex Yacht Club Welcomes Its Latest Boat Hoist

At Sussex Yacht Club, we’ve always taken pride in combining heritage with progress. From our beginnings on the River Adur in 1892 to today’s thriving community of sailors, racers, and watersports enthusiasts, the Club has continually invested in facilities that support life on and off the water.

Today, we’re excited to share the latest step forward for our boatyard: the arrival of a brand-new boat hoist, purpose-built by Ascom S.p.A. in Italy.

Strengthening Our Boatyard Capability

Our boatyard has long been a central hub of activity—supporting everything from quick lift-and-scrub jobs to full maintenance projects. With a busy yard and a diverse fleet, efficient and reliable lifting equipment is essential.

The Club has already invested in modern hoisting capability to manage boat movements safely and effectively, ensuring vessels of many shapes and sizes can be handled with confidence.

This new hoist represents the next evolution of that capability.

Precision Engineering from Italy

Built by Ascom S.p.A., the new hoist brings European engineering excellence directly to Shoreham. Known for robust, high-performance marine lifting systems, Ascom’s equipment is trusted in boatyards across the world.

For SYC members and visiting boat owners, this means:

  • Improved efficiency in lift-outs and relaunches
  • Enhanced safety and reliability during all lifting operations
  • Greater flexibility for a wider range of vessel types

In short, it’s an investment that directly benefits everyone using the yard.

Supporting a Growing Community

With over a century of maritime heritage and a vibrant membership, Sussex Yacht Club continues to grow as a home for sailors of all kinds—from dinghy racers and cruisers to divers and paddle sports enthusiasts.

As demand for boatyard services increases, upgrading infrastructure is essential. This new hoist ensures we can continue to:

  • Deliver smooth, professional yard operations
  • Maintain the high standards members expect
  • Support vessels from far and wide that support important industries within our community i.e. Fishing Industry.

Looking Ahead

The addition of the new hoist is more than just an upgrade—it’s a statement of intent. At SYC, we are committed to investing in the future of our facilities while preserving the welcoming, community-driven spirit that defines the Club.

Whether you’re planning essential maintenance, preparing for the season ahead, or simply making the most of time on the water, the improved boatyard experience is here to support you.

We look forward to seeing the new hoist in action—and to helping more members and visitors get afloat with ease.
