SUMMARY:Raft Race 2024
DESCRIPTION:Shoreham's charity Raft Race\, created in 2019 and hosted by Sussex Yacht Club\, was inspired by the much-missed Bath Tub Race. It aims to raise much-needed funds for charity and bring the local community together for a fun event on the water. \nWe aspire to make this an annual\, fun summer event eagerly anticipated by the whole community. However\, it's not just about fun; we also aim to raise funds for local charities. All surpluses over and above the event costs will be passed on to our selected local charities. \nCharties selected for this years raft race will be announced at a later date. \n£15.00 per person. \nThe day begins at 1200hrs however the race will start at 1500hrs. \nPlease see our Rule Book Here \n

SUMMARY:Royal Escape Race Champagne Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the on going generosity and support of The Old Ship Hotel\, SYC members can enjoy a complimentary breakfast on race day for this years Royal Escape Race. \nOn the 24th May 2024 the race will  start from a line off Brighton East Pier then on to Fecamp in France. \nThe start off Brighton is in recognition  that The Old Ship was once owned by Nicholas Tattersall of Brighthelmstone. Tattersall’s ship\,”The Surprise” was renamed\, The Royal Escape\, became a serving Royal Navy ship and Nicholas Tattersall  was awarded a Royal Navy Commision in recognition of his role in the escape of Charles II. In 1670 he was given the prestigious position of High Constable of Brighton. That same year he acquired the Old Ship Hotel\, and it is said that within the Old Ship there  are  timber beams taken from his ship the  Royal Escape. \nBe at The Old Ship Hotel sharp at 07:30 for breakfast on 24th May 2024\, to watch the boats leave on our historic annual race to Fécamp from the sea front terrace or\, comfort of the Royal Escape Suite\, in the hotel. \nThere will be champagne on arrival to toast the 44th Royal Escape Race \nPlease secure yourself a seat as numbers will be limited. \n

DESCRIPTION:Sailability sessions are run on specially adapted boats suitable for disabled people ro sail or crew and are stable and designed not to capsize. We can accomodate a variety of disabilities such as learning difficulties\, hearing impaired\, sight impaired and wheelchair users. \nInitially\, new recruits sail with a coach on the river\, once safe\, competent and if appropriate\, can then sail solo and even sail regularly with able-bodied members.

DESCRIPTION:Sussex Yacht Club Raft Race Social\nCome celebrate SYC's Raft Race weekend on the water via SUP in pirate fancy dress!\nThis session is a relaxed\, informal and social paddle with the SYC SUP School instructors available. \nFancy dress is optional! \nThere will be a chance to talk technique\, learn new skills and try some demo boards. We will paddle up and down the river Adur and meet other paddlers and SYC members. \nMeet at the SYC SUP Shack then get out on the water for a couple of hours and\, of course\, an opportunity to have a drink in the bar afterwards. \nSuitable for paddlers with some experience\, not suitable for total beginners - please try a taster session with us first. \nAttendees are welcome to bring along their own boards or hire one from SYC. \nSession cost is £10.00 when hiring a board\, or FREE if bringing along your own board. \nPlease note\, non-members can only attend a total of 3 times for free when bringing your own board. \nDetails for Non-Members:\nNon-members are required to pay an additional £10.00 for day membership which is deducted from your membership fee if you join. \nPlease Note: \n\nA maximum of 3 Day Memberships can be purchased in any 12 month period\nAfter 3 visits\, full membership must be taken up before next water participation\nDay Memberships can be used as discount against full membership within 3 months of the last payment\n\nSUP SESSION INFORMATION\nSession Instructions\n\nPlease arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the sessions commencing.\nParking is very limited and for members only\, please use on street parking in Shoreham and walk to us.\nThe SUP Shack is found by walking past the main building towards the footbridge.\nThe session will start with some land-based training\, before heading out on the river\, and a debrief after the paddle. You are welcome to have a drink in the clubhouse after the session.\nBring a towel\, showers are available in the clubhouse\nFootwear – old trainers or wet shoes - flat soled – you will be able to take your shoes off and keep on the board however when on land will need suitable footwear that may also get wet – if you have a dry bag you can secure it on the board\nSome light clothing (not jeans)\, or a wetsuit\, and some further layers if necessary - Bring a change of clothes – Just in case!\nSunscreen lotion.\nYou are welcome to bring your own Buoyancy aids alternatively the club will provide these for you – everyone must wear these during their session.\nAny medication you may need.\n\nThere will be small lockers available for valuables however SYC cannot be responsible for any of your belongings \nThe session will only proceed in safe conditions this will be assessed by the instructor and postponed in the event of high winds etc. You will be notified via the app/email should this affect your booking.

The syllabus is based on the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive and the Department of Transport.
