Thanks to the generosity and support of Stow's Restaurent, SYC members can enjoy a complimentary breakfast on race day for this years Royal Escape Race.
On the 22nd May 2026 the race will start from a line off Brighton East Pier then on to Fecamp in France.
The start off Brighton is in recognition that The Old Ship was once owned by Nicholas Tattersall of Brighthelmstone. Tattersall’s ship,”The Surprise” was renamed, The Royal Escape, became a serving Royal Navy ship and Nicholas Tattersall was awarded a Royal Navy Commision in recognition of his role in the escape of Charles II. In 1670 he was given the prestigious position of High Constable of Brighton. That same year he acquired the Old Ship Hotel, and it is said that within the Old Ship there are timber beams taken from his ship The Royal Escape.
Please do come by the clubhouse at 07:30 for breakfast on 22nd May 2026, to watch a streaming of the boats leave on our historic annual race to Fécamp and cheers another spectacular Royal Escape Race.
There will be champagne on arrival to toast the 46th Royal Escape Race.
Please secure yourself a seat as numbers will be limited.
