Saturday 16th July saw the return of the much-loved raft race to the heart of Shoreham.

Organised by club members and staff on behalf of SYC, the event raises much needed money for local charities and is also brings a whole lot of fun to the town centre. As we were uncertain as the position with building the flood wall, we could not include SYC facilities in our planning, therefore the main event was centered around Coronation Green. Music was provided by the fantastic Shoreham Allstars, with refreshments provided by Cloak and Dagger Brewery, and various food stalls. In addition, each of this year’s charities had a stand on the Green.

Our Charities this year were:

Activities for the day started with a demonstration by our Outriggers section who dashed up and down the river to the delight of the crowd. As soon as the ide had quietened down, we had Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) races before the main Raft Race event with 21 rafts and more than 100 people on the water.

The SYC team for this year included: –

Planning for the event started in September last year with the team meeting regularly to update and coordinate the many, many things that must be put in place to run an event like this.

Enough words, I’ll let the pictures do the talking!
