Historic motor yacht club returns home

We are welcoming the return of a prestigious motor yacht club to Sussex Yacht Club.
Sussex Motor Yacht Club (SMYC), which was founded in 1907, has a colourful history of powerboat racing and early aviation. Past members have included royalty and celebrities such as Rudyard Kipling, Charlie Chaplin and Pink Floyd’s Rick Wright. 
Once based here, SMYC moved to Brighton in the late 20th century and has been without a waterside base for the last 25 years.

Ship-shape Sailability

Thank you to everyone who joined Sussex Sailability for a busy morning recently getting everything ship-shape, preparing its specially adapted boats for storage over the winter months.
The hard-working team scrubbed, checked and de-rigged all 15 boats to make sure that everything was all ship-shape ready for next spring, when the charity begins sailing again.
Kevin Headon from Sussex Sailability said, “The autumn months bring a sharp drop in the temperatures of the water and the weather starts to turn.  For our sailors, who can’t necessarily move around to keep warm, this makes maintaining body heat very difficult – so we have to reluctantly finish sailing for the year.

Paralympian gold medallist throws support behind ‘Door to Shore’

British sailing’s golden girl, Helena Lucas MBE, has added her support to the Door to Shore charity campaign, which aims to build some of the best facilities in the UK for disabled sailors – right here at Sussex Yacht Club
The campaign aims to raise £538,000 which will enable us, in partnership with the charity Sussex Sailability, to create a fully accessible centre of sailing excellence for those with disabilities.

Olympic sailor backs Door to Shore campaign

Sir Ben Ainslie, the most successful Olympic sailor of all time, has thrown his support behind Sussex Sailability’s charity fundraising campaign to build some of the very best facilities for sailors with disabilities in the UK – right here at Sussex Yacht Club.
The ‘Door to Shore’ campaign aims to raise £538,000 which will allow the Yacht Club, in partnership with Sussex Sailability, to create a fully accessible centre of sailing excellence in Shoreham.
